Online Vigilance and its Relationship to Academic Determination among University Students

Abstract
The present study addressed the concepts of Online Vigilance and Academic determination, which are considered relatively recent constructs in educational psychology, Online Vigilance refers to a state of continuous awareness and attentiveness to digital stimuli within the online environment, encompassing cognitive, behavioral, and emotional readiness, Academi determination on the other hand, represents a combination of sustained effort, perseverance, and long-term commitment toward achieving academic goals, and is associated with positive educational behaviors and outcomes among students.
The current study aimed to identify:
-The level of Online Vigilance among university students
The level of academic determination among university students-
-The relationship between Online Vigilance and academic determination among university students
-The statistically significant differences in the relationship between Online Vigilance and academic determination according to gender (male–female) and specialization (scientific–humanities)
The study was limited to undergraduate students at Wasit University enrolled in morning classes, including both males and females from scientific and humanities specializations during the academic year 2025–2026.
The final study sample consisted of 400 male and female students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher adopted the Online Vigilance Scale developed by Reinecke et al. (2018), which was translated by the researcher and consisted of 12 items distributed across three dimensions in its final form. In addition, the Academic determination Scale developed by Abdul Hussein (2025) was adopted, comprising 28 items distributed across two dimensions in its final version. Both instruments were reviewed by specialists to assess the appropriateness of their items. Subsequently, the two scales were administered to the research sample. After data collection, appropriate statistical procedures were employed for data analysis
