Abstract
This study examines the linguistic interpretation approach of Radhi al-Din al-Saghani by exploring his methodology in dealing with linguistic issues in his interpretation and clarifying his role in explaining the meanings of Qur’anic vocabulary and Arabic structures. The study aims to highlight his efforts in interpreting words, explaining linguistic meanings, and citing evidence from the Holy Qur’an, Prophetic Hadith, Arabic poetry, and the opinions of Arab linguists and grammarians.
The study adopts a descriptive-analytical method through collecting the linguistic issues mentioned by al-Saghani, analyzing them, and classifying them into several linguistic levels, including morphology, syntax, semantics, lexicography, and rhetoric. It also discusses his opinions, preferences, and toward the views of earlier scholars.
The study concludes that al-Saghani possessed extensive linguistic knowledge and relied on the authentic sources and principles of the Arabic language in his interpretation. It also reveals his interest in linguistic meaning and Qur’anic context in directing interpretations. Furthermore, the study demonstrates his scholarly status in the field of linguistic interpretation and his contribution to preserving the Arabic language and revealing its subtleties.
This study represents an effort to highlight the contributions of linguists in the interpretation of the Holy Qur’an and to demonstrate the scholarly value of al-Saghani’s methodology in linguistic interpretation
