Abstract
The printing industry is a fundamental pillar within the vital manufacturing sector, reflecting the level of technological development in societies. The importance of this industry stems from its ability to attract the growing workforce, as well as its significant contribution to meeting local needs for various printed materials. The printing industry in Wasit Governorate is gaining exceptional importance due to its role in raising the economic, social, and cultural level, especially in light of the rapid technological developments in printing equipment and machinery such as risographs, flexographic machines, lasers, light lettering, screens, stamps, and others. This has contributed to improving the quality of printed products and increasing demand for them from all institutions. Economic factors also played a prominent role in the establishment and localization of the industry, such as geographical location, topography, and climate (and human resources including the workforce, capital, transportation, market, and political factors) which contributed to shaping its spatial structure. The study reviewed the types of paper and electronic printing and the most important technologies and machines in printing production processes, in addition to the printing styles and various publications in the economic, marketing, and political fields, and their prominent role in electoral activities
The study focused on the geographical analysis of the printing industry. The results showed that Al-Kut district ranked first in industrial standards. Statistical methods also revealed spatial variation in urban centers, with Al-Kut district ranking first in the number of printing presses and workers. This is attributed to the district's capital, experience, scientific qualifications, and other advantages. The results confirmed that the nearest neighbor index (R) indicated that the printing presses followed a clustered pattern, reaching (0.67). The standard distance confirmed that (7109) printing presses were within the circle and (28.1) were outside the circle. This shows that the printing presses in Wasit Governorate tend to be more concentrated than dispersed. A set of future visions was also developed to enhance the developmental dimensions of the printing industry in the governorate. These include the importance of adopting a strategy that supports technological transformation and the development of human resources, including specialized training and qualification of the workforce, attracting investment, and providing government support, including banking facilities. This contributes to supporting the gross domestic product and supporting the private sector, leading to comprehensive development that rises to international standards
